| Match Report: | Honiton Colts resumed league action with a home fixture against Torrington on the top pitch at Allhallows. Dean Norman skippered the side in the absence of Ollie Rice, who represented the 1st team, and being the only absentee to the side that defeated Exmouth in Honiton's last outing. The Lacemen crusied to a comfortable 41-7 victory without really engaging top gear. Jack Fahy opened the scoring with a rampaging run off of a crash ball ten yards out, which was shortly followed by a great individual piece of play from fly-half Mike Gould who with defenders closing space outside of him directed a cheeky grubber kick between the opposition full-back and wing, before collecting the kick to score under the posts. Meadows converted. Sensing this would be an easier than expected win, Honiton opened their game and theatened the Torrington line several times before a typical surging run from Ben Small, standing in for the missing Rice, scored outwide after fielding the ball in his own half then out-sprinting the entire visitor's defence. The Lacemen turned round the half looking forward to the downhill advantage and 17 points ahead. The second half was all Honiton with the exception of a five minute spell from the visitors resuting in consolation converted try. Honiton's points came from another Gould try, this time stepping inside and crashing through the Torrington defence; tries from the centre pairing Kingwell and Hyland and the inevitable score from winger Wood, his tenth of the season. Meadows added two conversions to take his own tally for the season to 55. Skipper for the day, Dean Norman gave another commanding performance and rightly picked up the man of the match award. A mention for hooker Robert Price who represented Devon U17 in the Tamar Cup against Cornwall and produced a rousing second half contribution to help see Devon win 24-11. |
| Team Details: | Right; weather looks good and I expect Torrington to turn up so we should have some rugby this weekend. Mixed training session Wednesday; very annoying that a few players can't be arsed to at least text and say they can't make it, (thanks to those that do) but never mind, given the weather forecast the bench will be warmer this week! Equally annoying is the odd few who turn up and spend the night disrupting the session - this ends now as quite prepared to draft in next year's colts. Team news is that the side that beat Exmouth, minus the skipper (and those dropped because of the training issue), continue. Deano takes over as captain. Dalton is still out , Fahy subject to a late fitness test as he is still carrying the knock from two weeks ago, and Norcliffe is off playing polo or something similarly posh. Despite the tables Torrington are a decent side on their day and it was a tough encounter at their place, so I suspect they will come looking for a result. Simply; we need a good win to maintain a chance of qualifying for the Shield. 1pm and come wearing your game heads! 1. Baily 2. Price 3. Clements 4. Falkner 5. Harradance 6. Fahy 7. Sloman 8.
