| Match Report: | With the bottom pitch of Alhallows unplayable this week, Honitons second team fixture was moved to Torquay at the 12 hour bringing a few changes in personell with it. Having played in Torquay only a month ago a tight game was anticipated, but with conditions significantly improved Honiton used the wide pitch to strech the home side and ended up comfortable winners. The game started brightly with Honiton spinning the ball wide from the off, a good platform was provided for the backs to do their stuff and it didnt take long for Garman to be released down the far wing to score in the corner, Webber converted from the touchline. Following this a set move from a lineout duely won by Lane was span to the backs allowing Barratt to make yards and offload to Canniford who crossed unopposed, again Webber converted. This became a trend throughout the game with the tight forwards working well together, Churchward and Pavey working well around the breakdown. For the final try of the half from Honiton came when Harrison once again stole Torquays ball at the scrum and the back attacked through Canniford and Garman who made yards before Dobson steped the winger and fulback to crash over outwide, this saw Webbers first of two failed attempt of the game. Webber was next involved in the action when a Harrison steal from two made allowed the ball to pass through numerous hands to allow Webber to cross in the corner, no conversion. The Torquay side rallied for the final ten minutes of the half after good defence from the visitors, they finally crossed from a five metre lineout for an unconverted try. Half time came with Honiton in the lead by 24 points to 5. The second half saw Honiton race away with the game, excellent support play allowed Canniford to complete a second half hatrick, Garman and Webber to get a second and Rice to finish off with a deserved try for his support work all afternoon. These were all converted three from Webber and one a peice from Canniford and Kenny who was a welcome addition and very much looks the part as a good nine. Although the majority of the points were scored by the backs, good work at set peices by the forwards allowed time and space for Barratt to distibute well from flyhalf and complete a much needed win to boost Honitons Merit table position. Final score 64-5. |
