The history of the club is regretfully very incomplete, mainly because of the many homes the club had, from the days of its foundation in 1883 until it found a permanent home in its own clubhouse in 1978. As the club’s headquarters moved from pub to pub the records, minute books and fixture cards all became lost, even in relatively recent times, so the account of the club’s history reproduced here is necessarily based on what written and verbal evidence we have been able to glean. It will inevitably contain a few inaccuracies, and, at times, pure guesswork!
