Ally Pugh of Honiton Rugby Football Club has been nominated for the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards....

...for her work as a rugby volunteer and her dedication to the game. The awards are part of the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition Programme which provides grassroots rugby clubs and the rugby community with opportunities to recognise and reward the volunteers who make up such an integral part of the game. Ally has been volunteering with the Club for many years originally as a first aider for her son’s under 13 team and now as Safeguarding Officer, First Aid coordinator, and Kitchen Manager. Ally took on the first aid coordinator role and became a RFU first aider herself, she organised
training for the club volunteers and now there are 16 RFU trained first aiders and new first aid kits for each team and one in the club house. Ally then took up the critical role of Safeguarding Officer organising meetings for coaches to ensure they are adequately trained, booking safeguarding training for others, ensuring volunteers were DBS checked and attending regular meetings highlighting the Safeguarding role in the club. Ally also sits on both junior and senior committees and has recently completed the HRFC RFU
accreditation. After building work at the club there is now a new kitchen and Ally has recently taken up the role of kitchen Manager, overseeing the running, ensuring health and safety regulations are adhered to, completing food and hygiene certification. Ally also cooks for the junior and senior games as well as promotional lunch events held at the club.
Ally said “she was really surprised to be nominated as she felt other people in the club did a lot more than she did and felt proud to be part of such a great club which was gaining in strength every year due to the dedication of all involved at Honiton RFC. A spokesman for the club said “we simply could not operate without the huge time commitment and dedication of people like Ally she exemplifies everything you would want in a club volunteer and we are very grateful to have her at the club”. Ally Pugh is one of a select group of rugby volunteers in the area who is invited to attend an awards event held at . At this event, one volunteer will be announced as a Volunteer of the Year finalist – earning them a place at the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards night at Twickenham Stadium on Friday 7 September 2018.
