Jason Hannay of Honiton Rugby Football Club has been nominated for the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards for his work as a rugby volunteer and his dedication to the game. The awards are part of the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer Recognition Programme which provides grassroots rugby clubs and the rugby community with opportunities to recognise and reward the volunteers who make up such an integral part of the game. As a rugby volunteer Jason promotes and Coaches Rugby across all age categories from under7’s to seniors helping to start up teams and encouraging parents, volunteers and players to get involved and help promote the sport. Jason has helped with all aspects of running the club from supporting Youth festivals being a registered First Aider and getting very involved with the club house extension. Jason has been coaching for over 13yrs across Juniors , Seniors and ladies Rugby including starting new teams taking existing teams on tour and generally supporting player recruitment and engagement across the club. We went into the 2018 season with just 4 players in our Colts set up and with some hard graft from Jason the other coaches and the captain we now have 18 registered and playing regularly. When asked why he coaches when he has no children of his own playing Jason replies “ There are so many different reasons but the main one is that this sport helps us all be a part of something amazing, it encourages us to be confident and grow as individuals It creates lifetime friendships and memories and it really does show that no matter what background or where you are from, Rugby at this level is an even playing field that requires all its participants players, coaches, parents, committee members and supporters to make this happen”. Jason also commented “he was very surprised to be nominated as he is just a coach and there are literally tens if not hundreds of volunteers who help the club run week in and week out”. He is over the moon to be nominated and really looking forward to the awards evening in Exeter. Jason Hannay is one of a select group of rugby volunteers in the area who is invited to attend an awards event held at Livery Dole Mitsubishi,18 Trusham Road, Marsh Barton, Exeter EX2 8QH on Friday 25th May 2018. At this event, one volunteer will be announced as a Volunteer of the Year finalist – earning them a place at the Mitsubishi Motors Volunteer of the Year Awards night at Twickenham Stadium on Friday 7 September 2018.
