Larcombe conversions prove the difference in Withy win
Honiton Ladies recover from a 15 - 0 half time deficit to defeat visiting Withycombe Ladies 31 - 25 , Writes Jack Proctor
There was a terrific turnout of support for the Ladies team at Allhallows and the first half saw two competitive teams battle it out with just Withycombe getting on the score sheet to hold that 15 point half-time advantage.
Having struggled playing up the slope in the first half it was a very different story from the home side after the break, whereas the first the first period had seen Honiton struggle to get any fluid passages of play going, the second half saw plenty of that and the try count began to rise. Tasha Currie scored a hat-trick of tries and were tries from Abi Chalk and Sophie Jones while Jasmin Larcombe slotted a trio of conversions. Despite the scoring Honiton have it all their own way, as Withycombe did cross the home whitewash twice, but the difference between the teams at the final whistle was the Larcombe trio of conversions.
There was some great tackling by all in the Honiton ranks with special mention reserved for the industry in defence of Fiona Hanratty, Charley Keirle and Abie Chalk, with the youngest member of the team Megan Lawrence clearly improving each time she plays, but the forward of the game award went to a deserving Chalk, the backs award going to hat-trick lass Currie.
Honiton Ladies train each Thursday night at the Allhallows Playing Field from 7.00 pm until 8.30 pm. Its a terrific social sport and new players are always welcome
